Frequently Asked Questions
When should I see a lactation consultant?
You don’t have to wait until things feel impossible. I love seeing families in those first 1–2 weeks, but you should reach out if feeding is painful, your baby is very sleepy or fussy at the breast/bottle, weight gain is slow, or you’re preparing to introduce a bottle or return to work.
Why does breastfeeding hurt?
Breastfeeding shouldn’t be consistently painful. Discomfort is usually related to latch, positioning, or oral function. The good news is these issues are almost always fixable with the right support.
What makes St. Johns Feeding different?
I hold dual credentials as both an IBCLC and a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist, a combination that’s rare in this field. Most lactation consultants aren’t trained to assess oral motor function or swallowing, and most SLPs don’t specialize in lactation. I do both, which means nothing gets missed. Whether you’re navigating breastfeeding, bottle feeding, or both, you receive personalized, hands-on support in the comfort of your own home.
